You can set JAWS to ignore flash in the configuration manager.

You could disable Flash, but a lot of websites these days use it for various functions, menues and stuff.

If you are using jaws 7 it is in the personalized settings i think. I had to turn mine off because on certain websites I couldn't see any items or anything. So you have to disable it within the screan reader....just ignoring it in the configuration manager didnt' work. Personalized settings...jsut don't remember the key stroke to get to that. I'll have to think and post back later.

there is a way to disable the shockwave plug-in, which will stop annoying music etc coming on when you load pages.
Only do it if you are familiar with your internet options.

It's under programs, then manage addons. it's called shockwave flash object. disable it. If you ever wanna see flash again, you'll have to re-enable the plugin via the same method.

Configuration manager which is insert 6, then go to options menu in menu bar, then go to html options, then go to misk, then tab and check the option connected with flash. Since my computer was reformated, Flash has displayed things incorrectly with Jaws 8. It loads part of a page within the flash which is outside the flash, and the flash movy isn't loaded at all. I know not why that happens, though with Internet explorer 7 and Jaws 7 it'll load properly if in configuration manager, an option to use legacy internet explorer support is checked. I fcurrently use Jaws 8 except if I need to use a flash movy.

a semi-related note,
if you are wanting to get rid of sound made by flash on websites, there is a small app called flash mute that lets you press ctrl alt m to toggle on and off the sound in flash movies.
I found the link on the gw micro blog
www.gwmicro.com/blog
this program works with jaws also.
